TearCare Offers Relief for Dry Eyes

Chronic Dry Eye Sufferers: Find Relief with TearCare

Have you experienced dry, itchy, burning or sore eyes?  Or perhaps a stinging or a gritty sensation in your eyes with some watery or blurry vision?  You’ve tried a multitude of over-the-counter medications to relieve your symptoms, however they often fail only providing minimal comfort or relief.

Unfortunately, your symptoms may indicate that you have Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD), the leading cause of Dry Eye Disease.  And OTC medication are not designed to address the cause of your symptoms.
The doctors of Advanced Eyecare of Edgewater are proud to add the TearCare System to it’s repository of highly advanced solutions for treatment of Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD), Dry Eyes and Blepharitis.

As a leader in innovative vision care, we are certain the TearCare system will provide welcomed relief for those suffering from Dry Eye and Blepharitis.

What is TearCare®?

TearCare® is an innovative Dry Eye procedure that targets the blocked meibomian glands in your eyelids that produce oils to keep your tears healthy. When these glands become blocked or have reduced function, your tears may evaporate more quickly. Unblocking these glands with The TearCare® System can help restore their function and stabilize the tear film. This may improve the quality of tears and reduce symptoms like dryness, gritty or scratchy sensations, blurry vision, and watery eyes.

How Does TearCare Work?

TearCare includes two flexible eyelid devices, which Dr. Kaur or Dr. Dimple will gently place on your upper and lower eyelids.  The device is made of a soft, flexible material that conform to your eye’s natural shape.  They will remain comfortably on your eyelids throughout the procedure.   And unlike other treatment methods, TearCare allows the patient’s eyes to remain open and blinking throughout the procedure.

The entire process typically lasts less then 3 minutes and our doctors may manually clear away obstructions released from the meibomian glands.

Patients who wear contact lenses should remove their contact lenses prior to treatment.  Contact lenses should only be reinserted 1 hour post treatment.

Let us know if you have an ocular surface abnormality such as such as corneal dystrophy or similar conditions.  In some cases, TearCare may not be suitable.  Inform us prior to administering the treatment in order to ensure an effective, comfortable procedure.

Is TearCare Safe?

TearCare is a safe and effective treatment method for Dry Eye and Blepharitis .  The two eyelid devices contain temperature sensors that communicate with the smart hub multiple times per second, ensuring an even delivery of heat to the meibomian glands. The device, controlled by computer software, is customizable and safely monitored throughout the entire process.  You will find the process quite comforting, fast and effective.

Am I a Good Candidate for TearCare?

Most patients who are suffering from Dry Eye due to blockage in the Meibomian glands make good candidates for the TearCare procedure.   The 1st step in making that determination is having your eyes examined by Dr. Kaur or Dr. Dimple.  They will thoroughly evaluate your eyes, health and history to best understand your symptoms and confirm diagnosis and treatment options.  Candidates should also be over the age of 22 and in good health.

What are the Benefits of TearCare?

The usual Meibomian Gland Dysfunction treatment methods tend to include medical technologies that sit over both eyes. With the TearCare system, your eyes remain open and you can blink normally throughout, which allows for a more comfortable and natural-feeling procedure while providing you with quicker results than traditional treatments. With TearCare, tears are stimulated and blockages removed, thus preventing permanent damage to your meibomian glands and providing you with long-lasting relief.

Any Side Affects with TearCare?

As with any procedure, there may be certain side effects.

These may include:

  • Allergic reaction to the adhesive underneath the eyelid devices
  • Conjunctivitis (commonly called ‘pink eye’)
  • Corneal abrasion
  • Styes
  • Swelling or burning of the eyelids

Should you experience any side effects, let your optometrists know right away.
